Rumsfeld upholding the constitutionality of the Solomon Amendment. As a national constituency of advocates-in-training with a long-standing commitment to nondiscrimination in recruiting and a history that includes achieving a partial Congressional repeal of the Solomon Amendment in 1999, law students are uniquely situated to accelerate the effort to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Law students will return home from this practical workshop with concrete tools to advocate for the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," using traditional methods, such as face-to-face lobbying and letter-writing campaigns, and more creative vehicles. Students will also leave understanding how to integrate these efforts into broader law school ameliorative efforts. |

Patricia M. Logue will receive NLGLA’s Dan Bradley Award. The Dan Bradley Award is NLGLA’s highest honor and recognizes efforts by a member of the LGBT legal community who has led the way for equality under the law. Dan Bradley was the first chair of the American Bar Association Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities Committee on the Rights of Gay People, now known as the Committee for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. Bradley saw the law as a powerful instrument of social justice, and he believed that lawyers had an obligation to place their skills as advocates at the service of the least powerful among us. Ms. Logue spent 14 years as an attorney with Lambda Legal. She began her career by opening Lambda Legal’s Midwest Regional Office in Chicago in 1993 as Managing Attorney. She also served as Interim Legal Director and Senior Counsel, as well as Director of Constitutional Litigation. Logue left Lambda Legal earlier this year to become an associate judge for the Circuit Court of Cook County. NLGLA is proud to bestow a lifetime achievement award to Pat Logue in recognition of her many years of legal work contributing to the rights, safety and respect our community gained during that time.
