First-Ever OUT & PROUD In-House Counsel

Reception a HUGE Success!

On Thursday, November 8th, as part of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association's Creating Pathways to Diversity© Conference, NLGLA hosted the OUT & PROUD In-House Counsel Reception at the Marriot Marquis in Manhattan. The event was a huge success and drew in-house counsel, firm associates and partners, and law students from around the country.

We're Looking for a Few Good Board Members

In December 2007, the National Lesbian and Gay Law Association will be seeking Statements of Interest from individuals who wish to join the Board of Directors to serve “At-Large” two-year terms beginning in August 2008 and ending in August 2010.  Three new board members will be chosen during a comprehensive nominations review process.

Additional information on submitting a Statement of Interest will be included on the NLGLA website and in the December NLGLA Newsletter. If you have questions about the process, contact D'Arcy.


Lambda Legal Announces Tyron Garner Memorial Fellowship for African-American LGBT Civil Rights

Lambda Legal.

Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund is proud to announce the establishment of the Tyron Garner Memorial Fellowship for African-American LGBT Civil Rights. The first fellowship will be awarded to a law student or recent law graduate to work in any of Lambda Legal's five offices during the summer of 2008.

American Bar Association adds LGBT Commission

The Advocate

November 10, 2007

The newly created American Bar Association Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity will work to eliminate bias and discrimination against LGBT attorneys, justices, and figures in the judicial system, according to a statement released by the commission Friday.

ABA president William H. Neukom said that the organization's commitment to equality is reflected in its opposing public discrimination that is based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Neukom said that in February 2007 the ABA added LGBT people to its Goal IX, adopted in 1991, which promotes full and equal participation in the legal profession by minorities, women, and persons with disabilities.
