Save the Date: Lavender Law 2009!

Please mark your calendars: the 2009 Lavender Law Career Fair and Conference will take place September 10-12th at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge.  We are very excited to be returning to New York for the 21st Annual Conference.  Looking back to our very first event in 1988, it is easy to see that the LGBT legal community has made great strides in the march towards full equality and inclusion.  In appreciation for the tireless efforts of the countless lawyers, judges, activists, academics and other individuals who helped shape the landscape of LGBT equality, the NLGLA is proud to release audio recordings from the 1998 conference in San Francisco.  Featuring some of the leading legal minds in the LGBT movement, these recordings serve as a reminder of how much we have accomplished in two decades as well as of how much more is left to do.

Hispanic Bar Opposes Proposition 8

The Hispanic National Bar Association (HBNA) has publically come out in strong opposition to California’s Proposition 8.  Its resolution, which was originally passed at the HBNA’s 33rd Annual Convention in Hollywood, sends a strong message of equality and inclusion to the Hispanic and LGBT communities.  The NLGLA applauds the HBNA’s decision and is proud to have a partner so dedicated to fighting discrimination in all its forms.  Thank you, HNBA!

Hyatt Boycott in San Diego

The NLGLA would like to congratulate the American Association of Law Schools for its recent decision to relocate its 2009 Annual Meeting in San Diego from the Manchester Grand Hyatt to the Marriott Hotel & Marina.  The move was sparked by revelations that the owner of the Grand Hyatt, Doug Manchester, was in support of California’s Proposition 8 and had donated $125,000 to the effort to write discrimination into law.
